The Physics department at JGU Mainz is among the top-ranked physics institutions in Germany. In addition to its outstanding on-campus infrastructure—including two particle accelerators, a research reactor for neutron experiments, and a high-performance computing center—the location is distinguished by a wide array of research activities and active participation in numerous coordinated research programs, such as our Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+, Collaborative Research Centers (SFBs), and graduate schools. This academic environment is further enriched by renowned non-university research institutions, including the Max Planck Institutes and the Helmholtz Institute, as well as other notable organizations in the field of physics, such as the Mainz Institute for Theoretical Physics (MITP).
