Diese Systeme haben gemeinsame Merkmale: Ihre charakteristischen Energien liegen in der Gr\u00f6\u00dfenordnung der thermischen Energie (kT) und die Entropie ist ein unverzichtbarer Faktor. Durch die Verkn\u00fcpfung von Physik, Chemie und Biologie sollen grundlegende Prinzipien aufgedeckt werden, die weiche und lebende Materie regeln, wobei die Anwendungen von der Materialwissenschaft bleiben r\u00e4tselhaft. Seine Struktur \u00e4ndert sich, wenn es unterk\u00fchlt ist, mit gel\u00f6sten Substanzen oder in der N\u00e4he von Oberfl\u00e4chen, wie z.B. bei Proteinen. Eine Hypothese zur Erkl\u00e4rung dieses anomalen Verhaltens ist die Existenz von zwei fl\u00fcssigen Phasen: eine mit hoher und eine mit niedriger Dichte, die durch einen Fl\u00fcssig-Fl\u00fcssig-\u00dcbergang verbunden sind, der auch in anderen Fl\u00fcssigkeiten vorkommt. Dar\u00fcber hinaus kann der feste Zustand, Eis, sogar glasartige, amorphe Zust\u00e4nde ausbilden, wie sie im Weltall vermutet werden. Das Verst\u00e4ndnis solcher \u00dcberg\u00e4nge in Wasser, Polymeren und Gl\u00e4sern ist ein globaler Forschungsschwerpunkt. Wir untersuchen dies mithilfe von Molekulardynamiksimulationen, Streutechniken, Spektroskopie und Kalorimetrie.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-big-font-size Diese Systeme haben gemeinsame Merkmale: Ihre charakteristischen Energien liegen in der Gr\u00f6\u00dfenordnung der thermischen Energie (kT) und die Entropie ist ein unverzichtbarer Faktor. Seine Struktur \u00e4ndert sich, wenn es unterk\u00fchlt ist, mit gel\u00f6sten Substanzen oder in der N\u00e4he von Oberfl\u00e4chen, wie z.B. bei Proteinen. Eine Hypothese zur Erkl\u00e4rung dieses anomalen Verhaltens ist die Existenz von zwei fl\u00fcssigen Phasen: eine mit hoher und eine mit niedriger Dichte, die durch einen Fl\u00fcssig-Fl\u00fcssig-\u00dcbergang verbunden sind, der auch in anderen Fl\u00fcssigkeiten vorkommt. Dar\u00fcber hinaus kann der feste Zustand, Eis, sogar glasartige, amorphe Zust\u00e4nde ausbilden, wie sie im Weltall vermutet werden. Das Verst\u00e4ndnis solcher \u00dcberg\u00e4nge in Wasser, Polymeren und Gl\u00e4sern ist ein globaler Forschungsschwerpunkt. Ein Schl\u00fcssel zum Erfolg ist die Multiskalenmodellierung, d.h. die Kunst, systematisch Hierarchien von Modellen zu konstruieren, die auf verschiedenen Skalen arbeiten. Wir entwickeln solche Ans\u00e4tze f\u00fcr weiche Materie, die aufgrund der dominierenden Rolle der Entropie eine besondere Herausforderung darstellt. Die allgemeinen Prinzipien, die das Verhalten solcher Nicht-Gleichgewichtssysteme bestimmen, sind weitgehend unbekannt. Unser Ziel ist es, herauszufinden, wie solche Prinzipien aus den mikroskopischen Gesetzen hervorgehen, die die einzelnen Bestandteile des Systems regeln. Diese Forschung ber\u00fchrt eine Vielzahl von Aspekten - von grundlegenden philosophischen Fragen \u00fcber den Pfeil der Zeit bis hin zu praktischen Anwendungen in der Biologie und Nanotechnologie.
